Gore's speech rocked. It's about time someone said these things. Now we'll just have to see how the U.S. responds. I remain skeptical with a bit of hope. To ease your exploration, I've put together a list of news sources and what they are saying. This is basically just your mainstream media outlets--but that is a good predictor as to how the general American population will respond. I think it goes without saying that I highly suggest you to the source and hear it/read it yourself. Any summation of it is really just going to be a mess of gobbledy-gook. Anyway, I know that I am essentially lazy, and would love this done for me... so here.
It becomes painfully and obviously clear which news sources are partisan (hint: all of them) and on which side. Surprisingly, I've yet to see anything about it on BBC News. Not surprisingly, the only source that did not plainly put the Gore speech on the front page was Fox News. They had it in their Political News menu. They did, however, have a large advertisement for the upcoming episode of '24.'
ABC News: Gore slams wiretapping program
CBS News: Gore assails domestic wiretapping progam (this one has a great picture, hehe)
CNN: Bush broke law with domestic wiretapping
Fox News: Gore: Eavesdropping Program Threatens Structure of Government
MSNBC: Gore assails domestic wiretapping program
New York Times: Gore is sharply critical of Bush policy on surveillance
USA Today: Gore assails domestic wiretapping program
Washington Post: Gore says Bush broke the law with spying
Just based on these articles, it seems the Republican's party line on this issue is that Gore is just trying to get attention. Their response to the attack's on the Bush administration are that yes, he is within Constitutional bounds, and that the program is necessary to protecting Americans against terrorist attacks. Did they even listen to Gore's speech? I never cease to be amazed.
P.S.- I find it creepy and convenient that Barr's satellite connection didn't work.
